Early careers

We’re doubling the number of graduate opportunities in 2024 and recruiting record numbers of apprentices

We invest more than £45 million each year in our early careers programme, with more than 1,000 apprentices and graduates currently building experience delivering our mission. We also make significant amounts available each year to develop talent and support future pioneers with PhD bursaries.

Say hello to …

Graduates

The NDA group graduate programme offers a two-year programme in a whole range of professional disciplines.

As an NDA group graduate, you’ll get the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution towards the delivery of our nationally important mission. During our two-year graduate programme, you’ll take part in three placements in different parts of the NDA group. You’ll start with a 12-month placement, before completing two six-month opportunities.

Apprenticeships

We provide apprenticeship opportunities in many parts of the NDA group. Not only will you get involved in projects that will stretch you, protecting the environment for generations to come, but you’ll also learn from industry, sometimes world, experts.

PhD opportunities

The NDA group is committed to developing talent within the nuclear sector and supporting the pioneers of the future. We’re currently sponsoring around 150 PhD students and five post-doctoral researchers at universities around the UK, ensuring the organisation has the right skills and capabilities to support nuclear decommissioning.

Each year we invest around £100 million in research and development as part of ongoing support to develop the technical skills needed for decommissioning in the future. Around £5 million of that supports academic research, including direct funding of about 30 new PhD projects each year. As well as the PhD Bursary calls issued annually by NDA and NWS, the NDA group supports research through Centres for Doctoral Training such as the GREEN CDTEPSRC industrial CASE awards and direct industry funding.

This research helps ensure the challenges of nuclear decommissioning are fully understood, pushes the boundaries to explore emerging ideas and innovation, and seizes the opportunities created by the development and demonstration of new technologie

NDA sponsored PhD opportunities are advertised on FindAPhD.
